SAX IN THE CITY MUSICIANS
Ang Choo Wee (Soprano Saxophone)
The quartet leader, Choo Wee has had over 20 years of experience on the saxophone, including a stint as a professional saxophonist for 2 years with the SAF Central Band. No stranger to the local band scene, he has been the lead alto player/guest soloist with more than 10 local bands.
He currently also plays for the Singapore Jazz Orchestra and has also guest performed as a soloist with the Orchestra of the Music Makers. Recently, he has also been invited to play alongside Flame of the forest, a traditional Indian-fusion music trio, on their latest season as a soloist.
Edmund Wuu (Tenor Saxophone)
Edmund Wuu plays the jazz saxophone in a wide variety of settings. From solo performances and intimate duos to jazz and saxophone quartets, as well as 9- piece funk bands and 18-piece big bands, Edmund is no stranger to the music scene. He plays regularly for private functions, including weddings and corporate events. In addition, Edmund also plays with the Singapore Wind Symphony City Swing Band, the Summertimes Big Band, local funk group Fungkimunkees, and also the Singapore Jazz Orchestra.
He has performed at countless corporate events and weddings, entertaining important guests such as President Tony Tan, Former President SR Nathan, PM Lee Hsien Loong, & SM Goh Chok Tong. Beyond Singapore, he has also performed in many cities in the South East Asia region, including Kuala Lumpur, Bali, Phnom Penh, Vientiane, and Dili.
Joshua Kaleb Kong (Alto Saxophone)
Joshua started playing the saxophone when he was 13, under the baton of Mr Desmond Ng in Yio Chu Kang Secondary School. He was given the honor to perform various solo pieces such as Alfred Reed’s Children’s Suite for Solo Alto Saxophone in 2003, Ferrer Ferran’s Concierto Del Simoon (Concerto for Alto Saxophone) in 2006 and Sapphire Concerto for Alto Saxophone and Wind Band by Catherine Mcmichael in 2009. He was also the Concertmaster for the Republic Polytechnic Wind Symphony from Year 2006 to 2008.
Given the opportunities to conduct the band during his Republic Polytechnic days, Joshua developed an interest in conducting and has since attended conducting Master Classes by Dr. James W. McRoy and Mr. Shuichi Komiyama.
Joshua is currently a member of the Singapore Wind Symphony and also guest plays in various bands and orchestras. His saxophone teachers include Mr. Tang Xiao Ping, Principle Clarinet player for SSO, and Mr. Low Chee Meng, Saxophone Lecturer in Mahidol University.
