Ho Chun Sheng Laurel

Laurel received full scholarship from National University of Singapore to study at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music with Shannon Pittaway. He was awarded fellowship to attend the Pacific Music Festival performing under Maestro Fabio Luisi. He has also been awarded full scholarship to attend Asian Youth Orchestra 2013. He was invited by the Myanmar Radio and Television to participate in the ASEAN Orchestra in collaboration the Myanmar National Symphony Orchestra. In a recent international trombone competition, he was placed 5th in the open category. He has also been awarded various grants from Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music to attend SliderAsia in Hong Kong, Melbourne International Festival of Brass and Brass Explosion in Singapore. Laurel previously graduated from Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts – with scholarship from National Arts Council – under Fredi Sonderegger. In 2007, he was accepted to South East Asian Youth Orchestra. He has also attended Slide Factory 2009 in Netherlands.


Laurel will be Principal Bass Trombone of Guiyang Symphony Orchestra in September 2014.


Laurel recently organized Trombone Day 2014 as Artistic Director in collaboration with Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music and Singapore Wind Symphony.


Laurel is involved in Slide That! Trombone Ensemble, involving Singapore’s next generation of trombonists. Laurel was also involved in Buzz! Brass Quintet’s debut performance, “Blast From The Past!”.


Laurel’s students have garnered distinctions in ABRSM graded exams and in O Levels exams. The many schools that he has taught at have all achieved Gold with Honours, Gold and Silver awards in the Singapore Youth Festival Judging.


Jasper Tan Jie Wei

Currently playing bass trombone in the Singapore Armed Forces Band as part of his 2-year national service, Jasper is an aspiring musician in Singapore. Prior to enlistment, he completed a Diploma in Music Performance at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA), Singapore, majoring in Bass Trombone under the tutelage of Damian Patti (Trombonist, Singapore Symphony Orchestra). He has been playing the trombone since 9 in the bands of Zhenghua Primary School and Dunearn Secondary School.


Jasper has been under the tutelage of Damian Patti (trombonist at the Singapore Symphony Orchestra) since Jan 2013. Prior to his appointment, he was under Fredi Sonderegger (then Associate Principal Trombone at the Singapore Symphony Orchestra). He had taken lessons from and participated in master-classes from several notable trombonists such as Stefan Schulz (Berliner Philharmoniker), Csaba Wagner (Staatskapelle Berlin), Ian Bousfield (Hochschule der Künste Bern), Scott Hartman (Yale University) and various others.


Jasper has been actively performing in several groups in Singapore, starting off with the Philharmonic Youth Winds in 2009. Currently, he is playing mainly in the Orchestra of the Music Makers, The Philharmonic Orchestra, The Philharmonic Winds and Slide That! Trombone Ensemble


Timothy Kok

Timothy picked up the Tenor Trombone at the age of 13. Under the guidance of only his band seniors, he played his first concerto, Concerto in B♭, for trombone and military band by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov at the age of 15, with the Xinmin Symphonic Band.


Despite his academic commitments, Timothy was active in the local music scene and was involved in The Philharmonic Youth Winds (2007), National Youth Winds (2009), The Philharmonic Orchestra (2013) and Singapore National Youth Orchestra (2011 – present). He went on the UK Tour with SNYO in 2012 during his first year of involvement with the orchestra. Timothy also took part in the finals of the Inaugural Brass Explosion! Solo Competition in 2010, amongst many conservatory students.


Since his participation in the SNYO, Timothy has been under the tutelage of Shannon Pittaway.


Aldwyn Tan Chor Guan

Aldwyn is one of Singapore’s most sought-after youth bass trombonists.
Aldwyn did not begin his musical journey with the bass trombone. He picked up the tenor trombone as a member of the St. Andrew’s School Military Band but made the switch to bass trombone in Secondary Four. Subsequently, he was successful in his audition for the Singapore National Youth Orchestra (SNYO) and has been the orchestra’s first-choice bass trombonist ever since.


As a member of the SNYO, Aldwyn has worked closely with many local and international conductors and musicians. His tours with the SNYO have also granted him performance credits at various concert venues in the Italian cities of Florence and Milan (10th Florence International Music Festival, 2008) and the German city of Berlin (Young Euro Classic Festival, 2012).


Today, Aldwyn performs with numerous musical ensembles in Singapore. He has appeared with groups such as The Philharmonic Orchestra (Singapore), The Philharmonic Winds (Singapore), Singapore Wind Symphony, the Orchestra of the Music Makers, and the Thomson Jazz Band. Aldwyn also played a key role in the establishment and success of youth-initiated performance ensembles Orchestra Collective (Open Division Champion, Singapore International Band Festival 2013) and The Young Musicians’ Foundation Orchestra. The satisfaction gained from performing with people he loves and trusts is something Aldwyn cherishes deeply.


Aldwyn serves as a trombone tutor in various secondary school bands across Singapore. He has been under the tutelage of Fredi Sonderegger, and is now developing himself with Shannon Pittaway.


Don Kow Kang Yue

Don Kow is currently a Tenor Trombone Major studying at the Yong Siew Toh Conservatory of Music under a full-scholarship.


He is the Principal Trombonist of the Singapore National Youth Orchestra(SNYO) and plays in many different ensembles across Singapore. He also participates actively in brass competitions and festivals, such as the Brass Explosion! festival in Singapore.


Don is currently under the tutelage of Shannon Pittaway and has studied under Fredi Sonderegger.


Don aspires to be a professional orchestra musician in the future.


Foong Jun Jie

Since young, Jun Jie has aspired to become a Musician. He pursued his Secondary Education as the pioneer batch in the School of the Arts- Singapore (SOTA), majoring in Trombone performance. He then furthered his Music education in the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) pursuing a Diploma in Music course (Trombone Performance).


He has performed with numerous organizations in Singapore and, was the Principal Trombonist of the Singapore National Youth Orchestra & National Youth Wind Orchestra. These organizations he performed with include- Orchestra of the Music Makers, The Philharmonic Winds, National Youth Wind Orchestra, Singapore National Youth Orchestra, Windstars Ensemble, Asian Youth Games Orchestra (2009), The Philharmonic Youth Winds, Windworkz etc.


Other than being an ensemble musician, Jun Jie has also performed as a Soloist with the Philharmonic Youth Winds at the Esplanade Singapore.


Jun Jie went on an exchange with SOTA, to Copenhagen, Denmark where he visited and performed with the Royal Copenhagen Boys Choir. In 2010, he toured with the International Baptist Church Orchestra to various parts of South-East Asia. He also participated in the Brass Explosion! (2012) in Singapore.


Jun Jie was the Joint Top Scorer for the Year 4 Recital in SOTA (2010) and has an impressive record of scoring Distinction in every ABRSM exam he has attended. His highest ABRSM qualifications at the moment are- Grade 8 (Trombone), Grade 8 (Piano) and Grade 7 (Theory).
